Materials: Saran-wrap, Styrofoam, wire, aluminum pop cans, and spray paint.
For this project we were to chose an artist that we were to find inspiration from. I chose Antony Gormley, an artist who specializes on sculpting figures in abstract, unusual ways. For our final projects it was not necessary for it to visually connect the work to the selected artist, but we had to explain how it lead us to create our sculptures.
I ended up following a path where I would test out and attempt to work with new and unfamiliar materials.
This led me to my idea of creating a piece that would make a statement on global warming and the importance of recycling.
The piece is meant to portray the decay of natural things, such as the human body and I made it with non-decomposable materials such as pop cans ans stryofoam that all have to be recycled. I thought that this would make the piece very ironic and thought this would be the best way to get my point across to the viewer.
